"The
victory of success is half won when one gains the habit
of setting goals and achieving them. Even
the most tedious chore
will become endurable as you parade
through each day convinced
that every task, no matter how menial or
boring, brings you closer to fulfilling your dreams."
- Og Mandino |
For this reason, you
MUST execute each and every training session as if it
were in Olympic Competition and you were going for the
GOLD!
Mediocrity is as common
as sand, excellence is as rare as gold, but while sand
and gold have no choice in how they exist, you do. You
can choose a life of mediocrity, or you can choose a
life of excellence by consistent, relentless and
organized training and continuously striving for
excellence.
Decide on a life of
excellence and you will discover fulfillment: mentally,
emotionally, physically, spiritually, professionally,
and financially.
|
"The
journey of a thousand miles begins with but a single
step."
- Confucius |
The first and most
important step is: PLANNING! You could plan to run four
marathons this year, do 100 push-ups every night and
lift weights 6 days a week. But the first and most
important exercise you will ever perform is to pick up a
pen and start writing your goals and resolutions.
Most people plan to
fail because they fail to plan.
Most people fail to
spend the time writing down their goals and end up
wasting their time, wandering aimlessly through life.
Everyone has dreams, but they remain dreams because they
never plan their work or work their plan.
One definition of
insanity is doing the same thing over and
over again, expecting a
different result.
Reflect back on what
you have accomplished. Has the past year brought you
closer to your dreams? Do you want to be in the same
place at the end of next year or do you want to be in a
better place?
Some say, You are
where you are supposed to be. Some say, You are where
you want to be. Where do you want to be? What do you
want to become? Who do you want to become? What are you
willing to sacrifice in order to achieve your goals?
Proper Planning
Prevents Poor Performance
You will become what
you WILL yourself to become. You will achieve only what
you are willing to work hard to attain. You will achieve
your goals by continuous, relentless and organized
training and continuously striving for excellence.
Most people don't
recognize opportunity because it comes dressed in
overalls and looks like work.
You hold in your hands
the greatest book ever written for the scope of practice
of a Personal Fitness Trainer. It is a valuable tome
containing the precise knowledge, skills and abilities
you need to become a highly successful IFPA Certified
Personal Fitness Trainer, but it is not enough to simply
read this book. It is impossible for you to master all
the knowledge, skills and abilities, secrets and wisdom
contained in these pages in just one reading. You must
dedicate yourself to disciplined, focused study of this
tome. Your continuous, relentless, organized training
and continuous striving for excellence in the
application of your study will make you a Master of Your
Craft! Many people look for the smallest possible effort
to meet the minimum level of competency of a task and
they often fail to achieve that menial goal. They are
common. Fortunately for all mankind, there are the rare
few that seek the highest possible level of achievement
and strive to maximize all their God-given talents! And
not merely for fame, wealth and/or glory. They choose to
climb the highest mountain, not to be stuck in a rut.
They choose to soar with eagles, not sit with turkeys.
They choose to truly live, not merely exist.
|
"Every
man dies, not every man ever truly lives."
-
Mel Gibson as William Wallace in the
movie Braveheart |
Your attitude should be
the same whether you are an IFPA Certified Personal
Fitness Trainer or a street sweeper.
|
"If
a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep
streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven
played music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should
sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and
earth will pause to say, here lived a great street
sweeper who did his job well."
- Dr. Martin Luther King |
However, street
sweepers are not responsible for the fitness, health and
medical welfare of a client to be trained, YOU ARE! Your
clients will come to you for the power you have to
transform their lives. This is a very serious
responsibility. You must master the knowledge, skills
and abilities provided in this text in order to train
your clients, safely and effectively. The IFPA text,
study guide, videos and certification course and
examination have all been developed to achieve that
goal, but it is up to you to put forth the requisite
time, effort and energy to master these skills.
Read the Manual. Study
the Manual. Learn the Manual. Memorize the most critical
parts of the Manual: when to call 911, signs and
symptoms of cardiovascular disease, safety guidelines,
Key Teaching Points, etc. PLAN to review the manual
daily with special attention to the most critical
information. You will do this daily by simply giving up
a 60-minute TV show (that includes 22 minutes of
commercial interruption in the 60-minute period). This
process will continue and expand to include your next
learning adventure.
Your next learning
adventure should be planned to take you closer to
achieving your goals. If your goal is to specialize your
fitness profession on children, you should enroll in the
IFPA Youth Fitness Instructor Certification Course. If
your goal is to train athletes, you should enroll in the
IFPA Sports Conditioning Specialist Certification
Course. If your goal is to increase the number of people
you can motivate to begin and maintain your fitness
programs, you should enroll in the IFPA Fitness
Consulting Specialist Certification Course. The IFPA has
60 Certification Courses and over 100 Continuing
Education Credit (CEC) Courses
available to help you with all your professional goals.
Take advantage of this benefit offered to you by the
IFPA. YES! This is an opportunity for YOU! And once
again, it is dressed in overalls and looks like work,
but your opportunities for success, achievement and
professional growth dramatically increase from the
knowledge, skills and abilities you can learn as well as
the IFPA Certification
credentials you earn.
Will it be Sand or
Gold?
Will it be Mediocrity
or Excellence?
Will it be Common or
Master of Your Craft?
I do not choose to be
a common man, it is my right to be uncommon if I can. I
seek opportunity, not security. I do not wish to be a
kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state
look after me. I want to take the calculated risk, to
dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.
I refuse to barter
incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to
a guaranteed existence, the thrill of fulfillment to the
stale calm of Utopia. I will not trade freedom for
beneficence, nor dignity for a handout.
It is my heritage to
think and to act for myself, to enjoy the benefits of my
creations, and to face the world boldly and say: With
Gods help, this I have done.
Dream big!
Make your Plan!
Work your Plan!
Strive for Excellence!
Become a Master of your
Craft!
Become a Master of your Destiny!

"This
is the true joy of life.
The being used for a purpose
Recognized by yourself as a mighty one.
The being a force of nature
Instead of a feverish, selfish
Little clod of ailments and grievances
Complaining that the world will not
Devote itself to making you happy.
I am of the opinion that my life
Belongs to the whole community
And as long as I live,
It is my privilege to do for it
Whatever I can.
I want to be thoroughly
Used up when I die,
For the harder I work the more I live.
I rejoice in life for its own sake.
Life is no brief candle to me.
It is a sort of splendid torch
Which I've got hold of
For the moment
And I want to make it burn
As brightly as possible before
Handing it on to future generations"
