Beginning Strength Training for Kids CEC (4 credits)

This course is designed to further the knowledge of all fitness professionals with an emphasis on strength training for young children. Its sole purpose is to further your professional education in working with children. This is not a certification course. It is an educational program to be used by all fitness professionals striving to raise their level of professionalism.

The Beginning Strength Training for Kids continuing education course provides invaluable advice and information on strength development of children. This course presents safe and effective ways to create a program prescription for children ages seven through fifteen. In addition to exercise guidelines and nutrition requirements, instructions for 82 exercises are explained in detail. For general and/or sport-specific conditioning, using free-weights, weight machines, cords, balls, or body weight, this course will show you how to encourage children to improve their overall fitness as well as their self-esteem.

CEC Learning Objectives
  1. Learn how and why strength CAN and SHOULD begin at any age, dispelling the commonly held MYTH: “Children should NOT LIFT WEIGHTS!” The reality is that strength training has been proven to reduce the incidence and severity of athletic injuries at all ages and all sports.
  2. Learn that significant gains in muscle mass, strength and power are possible from the age of seven and how to use this knowledge to benefit your young athlete.
  3. Learn the benefits that increased strength and power can provide by dramatically improving athleticism.
  4. Learn the high levels of perfecting the detailed instruction for the 82 free weight, body weight, machine, cord and medicine ball exercises provided in the text.
  5. Learn the stretching exercises to prevent injury and improve overall fitness in all your young athletes.
