The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Fitness Professionals CEC (2 credits)
You may or may not know this already but in order to be a success as a personal trainer, you are going to have to
become a very effective problem solver. The IFPA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Book is a very useful tool for
you to use to help in both solving problems and equally important...in preventing problems.
You will soon discover that the principles you are about to read, will help you solve problems, prevent problems
and make decisions concerning not only your professional life but your personal, emotional, intellectual, spiritual
and financial life as well. Do you believe you can become a highly successful personal trainer without first becoming
a highly successful human being? Unfortunately, there are many, many unsuccessful human beings masquerading as
personal trainers. If this trend continues, it could spell disaster for the personal training industry.
You must commit yourself to becoming "the best trainer you can be" and that will require you to
become "the best you can be." To illustrate the importance of this concept, you are going to memorize
a simple statement that is carved into the stone above the entry way to the United States Air Force Academy in
Colorado Springs, Colorado. The inscription reads: "We Do Not Lie, Cheat or Steal, Nor Tolerate Anyone
Amongst Us Who Does."
Becoming an Officer in the United States Air Force is serious business. Becoming a Fighter Pilot in the
United States Air Force is serious business. Becoming a member of the "Warrior Class" in the United
States Military Forces is serious business. But you need to know that becoming a personal trainer in the
United States of America is equally serious business! If you doubt, for one second, that your personal
training career is not as serious business as our nation’s warriors, then you need to reevaluate the career you are embarking on.
I, was once an Officer in the United States Air Force and I was honored and privileged to become an Air Force Fighter Pilot.
I was once (and as often as time will allow) a personal trainer. I am therefore qualified to offer an expert opinion of the
serious business of both professions.
