“Failure is a choice made
by the undisciplined. Failing to meet your objectives, regardless of
what they are, is a choice, because something else has been given higher
priority.”
-Vic Conant
Something I would like
to try in order to celebrate the success of the members of our
association is a new IFPA Success Stories column. This column will be
used in FitBits and FitNews as well as posted on the IFPA website.
Your stories will be
used not only to celebrate your achievements, but to inspire others in
their journey to success. Please send your stories (or if you’re to
humble, have your friend, boss, supervisor, mom, etc. send your story)
to:
ifpasuccessstories@ifpa-fitness.com.
The “Ask a Trainer”
email is getting a lot of questions on core, functional and physioball
training. The IFPA is in the process of developing a certification
program to cover these related areas and of course there will be
numerous presentations on these topics at the “Fitness-By-the-Bay”
conference in Tampa, August 26 thru 28. One safety note to cover today
concerns your questions on Physio Ball height. The general rule of thumb
is that the diameter of the ball should be 15-20% less than your
client’s inseam and remember that the ball should be inflated to the
point where it is firm, not squishy.
Use
the following table for choosing ball size:

I would also like to
request your aid on finding additional IFPA Faculty Instructors (FI).
You already know that the IFPA prides itself on having the best faculty
in the world and as we continue to grow we need more of the same high
quality. The requirements for IFPA Faculty are: 1) Masters Degree or
higher (PhD, MD, DO, DCM, etc.) in some exercise, wellness, health,
nutrition or related field; 2) Outstanding teaching skills; Faculty
Instructors must have the ability to articulate complex subjects into
understandable language; 3) Highest levels of dedication to the fitness
industry; 4) All Faculty Instructors must have a practical understanding
of how exercise knowledge is applied in the fitness profession
(experience as athlete, trainer, coach, etc. is a definite plus).
Please send contact
information and resumes to Lisa Maldonado at
lmaldonado@ifpa-fitness.com.
There was a recent
“Ask-A-Trainer” question from a new IFPA trainer about the “formula for
success” for personal trainers. I referred him to the past issues of
FitBits and FitNews archived on the IFPA web site.
Success in all areas of
life, really boils down to a few simple things, done over and over again
until they become ingrained habits: dedication + desire + discipline +
knowledge = success. This is the simplest possible expression of how to
attain achievement. In order to achieve happiness, add: character,
integrity and honesty.
Of all the
characteristics listed above, the only one I can help you with is
knowledge. All the IFPA courses and all the IFPA books and all the IFPA
Faculty Instructors cannot give you the dedication, desire and
discipline that must come from you.
I want
more from you than to just come to the
“Fitness-By-the-Bay” Conference to learn. I want more
from you than to just come to the conference to listen to great
presenters and great topics! I want you to come up with your own
individual plan on how to use the knowledge you gain from the
conference. I want a plan from you to gain knowledge, heighten your
dedication, desire and discipline and apply all that energy toward
achieving your goals of excellence as a fitness professional. I want you
so focused on achievement that you will ferociously gain the ability to
ruthlessly charge forth in your fitness career, completely and serenely
confidant that you're not just helping yourself, but everyone
else…clients, employer, friends, family…everyone, so success will become
increasingly and trivially easy.
That’s what I want for
you…what do you want for you?
Sincerely,
Jim Bell, President,
IFPA
