What made you choose a career in personal fitness training?
I have been weight training for close to 12 years. I was also a rhythmic gymnast in my teens for 8 years.
I have always believed a proper health program involves both nutrition and fitness. I wanted to offer my clients a fully comprehensive system that supported all aspects of their health.
What aspect of personal fitness training do you like most?
I like watching my clients achieve their goals. It’s very gratifying to see the them through the entire process.
What made you choose the IFPA?
A colleague referred me to the IFPA. I wanted a credible program to build a solid personal training business. I wanted a program that was available through distance learning. The IFPA program could be integrated into my busy schedule with ease.
If you have taken more than our PFT course, what has been your favorite certification course?
I really enjoyed the Advanced Strength Training program. I found this course very useful for establishing great hypertrophy routines for my clients.
How long have you been a Personal Trainer?
I started my business in July 2016.
What qualities set you apart from other personal trainers? Education? Experience?
I’m meticulous about my approach and offer a lot of nutritional and lifestyle coaching to create a good foundation for my clients. I also have an Advanced Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant diploma from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. I am an academic advisor for their sports nutrition program and also their Advanced Nutrition certification program.
Earlier this year I attended 3 seminars from Charles Poliquin, the most successful strength coach in history. I have a passion for seeking out quality education to maximize the results my clients achieve.
What is your best success story?
My best success story was when I worked with a couple before the conception of their child. I started with a nutrition program for the mother and father which helped to greatly enhance their health. The couple conceived on their first try!!!!!!!!!! I provided the mother with a prenatal nutrition program and helped to support her for the full 9 months. The mother’s pregnancy was incredibly easy with almost no undesirable pregnancy symptoms. In the postnatal phase I provided the mother with adjustments to her nutrition program for ongoing health. The mother waited 6 weeks after birth and started her first training program with me. I am also supporting the baby with probiotic therapy for proper immune health development. The couple has been incredibly positive about the whole experience.
How has the PFT business changed since you started?
Trainers are getting very technical about their knowledge. I love it.
How do you envision growing your personal training business?
I’m hoping to move into an online interface so I can work with clients across North America. I want to generate more focus on fertility nutrition counseling in order to help couples conceive.
What was the hardest challenge you had to overcome in your personal training career?
I would have to say the hardest challenge is and has been working from the moment I open my eyes to the moment I go to sleep, week after week, month after month without break. Simultaneously, I get to live with the satisfaction that I have made a difference in peoples lives.
What is your best advice to someone just starting their career as a personal trainer?
Enjoy the process and don’t rush through anything. Haste makes waste. Good mentors are also very valuable to the learning process.
