Plyometrics Specialist

Develop speed and power with science-driven jump training. In the Plyometrics Specialist certification, you’ll harness the stretch–shortening cycle with crisp landing mechanics, force absorption, and rapid coupling to turn elastic energy into performance. Learn how surface, footwear, stiffness, and arm swing affect output; progress athletes from low-impact hops and skips to bounds, countermovement and depth jumps, and upper-body plyos. Program contacts, intensity, and recovery by phase; pair plyometrics with strength and sprint work for maximal transfer; and manage risk for knees, Achilles, and low back. You’ll use readiness screens and simple metrics—jump height and distance, ground-contact time, RSI, and repeat-effort tests—to individualize loads, track progress, and keep athletes fast, healthy, and competition-ready.

Course Goals

  • Apply stretch–shortening cycle principles to drive speed and power.
  • Teach landing, deceleration, and force absorption for joint safety.
  • Progress from low to high intensity with clear contact and recovery limits.
  • Integrate plyos with strength and sprint training for real performance transfer.
  • Monitor outputs and readiness to guide in- and off-season programming.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain eccentric–concentric coupling, amortization, stiffness, and arm swing effects.
  • Select safe surfaces, footwear, and volumes based on athlete profile and phase.
  • Build progressions: hops/skips → bounds → CMJ/SJ → depth/reactive jumps → repeats.
  • Coach cues for posture, knee/hip alignment, and soft yet fast landings.
  • Use metrics (height/distance, GCT, RSI, repeat tests) to adjust load and progress.

Skills Gained

  • Write plyometric blocks with contact counts, work:rest, and weekly progressions.
  • Design lower- and upper-body drills that match sport demands and positions.
  • Tune intensity via range, lever length, preload, and reactive constraints.
  • Pair plyos with lifting and sprint sessions for potentiation and transfer.
  • Troubleshoot issues (valgus collapse, loud landings, tendon flare-ups) and modify safely.
